Christopher Bowns
Christopher is a undergraduate Computer Science and Economics major. He works on the PATRIC website with fellow undergraduate William Donnell.
Sarah Cousins
Sarah is an undergraduate student majoring in Biology. She works on gene and protein annotation of bacterial and viral genomes.
Oswald Crasta
Oswald works as the Project Director at the Cyberinfrastructure Group at VBI. He oversees the bioinformatics and computational biology needs of the PATRIC project.
William Donnell
William is an undergraduate student in Computer Science. He works on developing the PATRIC web interface.
Joe Gabbard
Joe elicits user requirements and produces user interface designs for the PATRIC website. Joe is a faculty member in the Center for Human Computer Interaction at Virginia Tech.
Joseph J. Gillespie
Joseph is a bioinformatician studying the arthropod-borne bacteria Rickettsia and Coxiella. Joe is a liaison between VBI and the University of Maryland, School of Medicine, wherein he studies in the laboratory of the Rickettsia/Coxiella organism expert Abdu Azad.
Deborah Hix
Debby helps design and evaluate the user interface for PATRIC, drawing on her nearly 30 years of experience in the field of human-computer interaction (HCI). Debby is a founding member of Virginia Tech's HCI group, begun in 1979.
Ron Kenyon
Ron oversees management of all of Dr. Bruno Sobral's Cyberinfrastructure Group projects, including PATRIC. In this role Ron monitors expenditures, manages resources, develops schedules, and similar activities.
Jian Lu
Jian manages PATRIC databases including new schema design, data modeling, data loading, database release, database supports for software development.
Shrinivasrao Mane
Mane works on sequence analysis projects for PATRIC, including genome annotation and primer design. He recently received his Ph.D. in Plant Pathology.
Sohan Nagrani
Sohan is an undergraduate student majoring in Chemistry. He works on gene and protein annotation of bacterial and viral genomes.
Anjan Purkayastha
Anjan works as a computational biologist for the PATRIC project. He is involved in gene and protein annotation of bacterial and viral genomes.
Joao Setubal
Joao is associate professor at VBI and at the Computer Science department of Virginia Tech, and deputy director of VBI. He provides scientific guidance to PATRIC.
Joshua Shallom
Joshua is involved in gene and protein annotation of bacterial and viral genomes. He has expertise in proteins biochemistry and curation, genetics and bioinformatics.
Maulik Shukla
Maulik develops software for the PATRIC project, with a focus on the web interface. Maulik also coordinates the development efforts of the PATRIC software development team.
Eric Snyder
Eric works on analytical pipeline development and comparative genomics for the PATRIC project. He has significant experience with algorithm development for sequence analysis, particularly in gene prediction and motif characterization.
Bruno Sobral
Bruno leads and provides strategic guidance to the PATRIC project. Bruno is Executive and Scientific Director and Professor at the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute (VBI) and Professor of Plant Pathology, Physiology and Weed Science at Virginia Tech. He received his Ph.D. in genetics from Iowa State University in 1989. Prior to joining VBI, he served as vice president of scientific programs at the National Center for Genome Resources.
Rebecca Wattam
Rebecca manages the curation team for the PATRIC project. She also curates information on genes, proteins, and assorted pathogens.
Rebecca Will
Becky oversees management of all of Dr. Bruno Sobral's Cyberinfrastructure Group projects, including PATRIC. Becky manages the software development aspects of the projects.
Hyunseung (Harry) Yoo
Harry develops software for the PATRIC project, with a focus on the web interface. He received a Master's degree majoring in Human Factors Engineering at the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech. His research interests are bioinformatics visualization, evaluation methodology, and interface/interaction design.
